Jun. 28, 2025

With the advancement of technology and modern work environments, many people now spend long hours sitting on an ergonomic office chair or computer chair for work or study. Whether at home, in the office, or other workspaces, office chairs have become essential tools. Over time, chairs may wear out or need to be taken apart when moving. That’s when knowing how to properly assemble and disassemble your chair comes in handy.

As a professional office chair manufacturer and ergonomic chair manufacturer, we recommend familiarizing yourself with the chair’s components before starting. Most ergonomic office chairs consist of the base, casters, gas lift, mechanism, seat, backrest, armrests, and headrest. While it might seem like a lot, it’s actually quite simple to put together or take apart if you follow the correct steps.

How to Assemble:

1.Install the casters: Push the wheels firmly into the holes on the base.

2.Insert the gas lift: Place the gas lift vertically into the center of the base.

3.Attach the mechanism: Use screws to secure the mechanism to the underside of the seat.

4.Connect the backrest: Attach the backrest to the seat; now the upper part of the chair is ready.

5.Combine with the base: Place the assembled upper part onto the gas lift.

6.Add armrests and headrest: Install the armrests and headrest, and check all screws for tightness.

How to Disassemble:

Disassembly is usually more difficult than assembly, especially if the chair has been used for a long time. The gas lift can become tightly fixed to the base. If it's not necessary, we recommend avoiding disassembly. But if you need to, please proceed carefully.

Remove the backrest and seat: First, detach the backrest, raise the gas lift to its highest point, hold the seat with one hand, press the height adjustment lever, and gently rock the seat until it loosens.

Detach the gas lift: After separating the base from the upper part, turn the chair upside down. Use a rubber mallet to tap out the gas lift. If you don’t have one, use a wooden block to cushion the impact and avoid damage.

That’s a basic overview of how to assemble and disassemble an office chair. Whether you're a user or seeking a reliable ergonomic chair manufacturer, we hope this guide helps with your chair maintenance and moving needs.
